Process

For 20 minutes, I found myself fruitlessly brainstorming for ideas to title my first blog entry. I wanted to think of something clever and fascinating. I’d have liked nothing better than to give the first impression as someone who was boundlessly talented in writing and creative thinking. However, within those 20 minutes, I found Facebook to be my only creative outlet, as I made more status updates than I had in months combined. I realized that the world outside seemed brighter, livelier, and much more appealing when one was chained to a computer, the psychological super-ego adamant about finishing the work started, but the mind’s id yearning for a deceivingly “brisk” walk around the dorm- or to certain extremes, around the entire campus; and, of course, the poor, torn ego, which takes it upon itself to mediate the two bickering adversaries, pacifying them with insistence that the student would finish the paper after a short snack on brain food.
I realized that if 20 minutes of blogging about how difficult it was to focus on writing a blog wouldn’t help me finish what felt like a dissertation, then simply writing what came to mind would. Out spilled metaphorical thoughts and segments, seemingly having no apparent relation with each other. But as each word was typed into existence, the transitioning between each muse smoothed. Eventually, I had a cohesive idea for the blog entry, which I quickly named “Process”, as in, the process of creation involves the actual creation of process. One must begin in order to continue.
Needless to say, more thought went into naming the blog entry over the blog as a whole. I admit that I did not name my blog "Yip's Lit Blog" to contain any artistic merit. Instead, it was for simple pragmatic, utilitarian use. By my own personal definition, my blog title does not meet the criteria of literature. Instead, it has about the same amount of sentiment as an instruction manual for a stereo. This brings certain irony considering the title contains what it does not convey, the word "Literature". So I suppose I chose the title "Yip's Lit Blog" to be ironic, which itself gives literary value. Which means that I intended utilitarianism but was subconsciously literary- leading me to the point that I probably should have titled my blog "I'm Confused".
